Main purpose of the role:

As an experienced medical writer you will be responsible for developing content for a range of medical and scientific deliverables, including manuscripts, slide decks, meetings and interactive apps.  Your experience in Medical Communications will allow you to oversee multiple projects across therapy areas, managing Project Teams and more junior members of the writing team to achieve this.  Under normal circumstances, you will attend meetings, conferences and symposia locally and internationally as required, and will be expected to work closely with clients and faculty.  You will be a lead writer and Project Lead on many of your projects and will be expected to liaise directly with clients to achieve delivery.  Line management of more junior members of the writing team is an integral part of your role.  A collaborative approach is essential both to ensure the highest standard of deliverable and to help develop your skills and career further.  You will have a strong scientific background with a proven track record in Medical Communications, and we will support yo to develop your project and people management skills further.

Main Duties and responsibilities:
  • Develop content according to a brief provided by a client or Project Lead
  • Work across multiple therapy areas and deliverables aimed at a variety of target audiences
  • Ensure high levels of accuracy for both language and data in all materials produced 
  • Review the work of other members of the writing team as required
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the group within your assigned Project Team and lead Project Teams as required, following established SOPs
  • Provide strategic opinions both internally and to the client on your projects
  • Develop budgets and timelines for small-to-medium sized projects as required
  • Attend meetings locally and internationally as required
  • Lead calls and meetings with clients and faculty
  • Act as the main point of contact for faculty and clients on your projects
  • Ensure that all projects meet applicable compliance guidelines and regulations
  • Contribute to and lead pitches and business development projects as required
  • Line manage and mentor senior medical writers and junior members of the writing team
  • Coach others and share knowledge to develop skills and optimise performance of team(s)

  • Maintain accurate time sheets for your daily work schedule and ensure the same for your line report(s)
Education, work experience and skills:
  • A degree in medicine or a biomedical science is essential, preferably to doctorate level (PhD or MD)
  • You will ideally have 4-6 years'''' experience in Medical Communications
  • You will have a proven track record in producing written scientific content to a high standard, including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, and digital deliverables and leading projects to a successful delivery
  • You will have extensive experience of delivering meetings and symposia
  • You will have strong client-facing skills and experience managing multiple projects, including budget and timeline development
  • You will have experience of line managing junior members of a medical writing team and a willingness to develop these skills further
  • You will have a thorough understanding of the medical communications and education environment, the healthcare community and the role of pharmaceutical companies in the provision of healthcare services
  • You will have a solid understanding of environmental factors and scientific/medical information that may impact client accounts negatively or positively, and will be able to make appropriate recommendations
  • You will have a thorough knowledge of industry codes of conduct and legal requirements
  • You will be proficient in the use of standard software, including Microsoft Office, referencing software such as EndNote, and compliance platforms
