We’re looking for a brilliant individual who demonstrates anexcellent scientific understanding and can translate that understanding intomedical strategy and compelling scientific stories that resonate with targetaudiences. This individual must also be able to pair their scientific acumenand eye for innovation with a commercial understanding that will ensure theylead a team to develop high-quality deliverables and to actively generatewealth for the business.

The role

The Cello Health Communications Scientific Director is a keyleadership role within the agency, accountable to the Head of ScientificServices for editorial and content quality they work with clients to challenge,develop and shape pharmaceutical scientific strategies of the future. They arerecognised internally and externally as experts in the development andimplementation of strategic communication plans, often in one or severaltherapy areas/specialisms.

Scientific Directors are expected to lead teams by example,having responsibility and accountability for delivery of consistentlyhigh‐quality work, whether that be through facilitation of advisory boards andscientific meetings, through partnering with clients to develop futurescientific strategy or through development of medical strategy for business development.They are expected to own client relationships at a senior level, and as part ofa team manage the scientific aspects of projects and programmes of work.

Scientific Directors assume responsibility for deliveringwealth to the organisation, through innovation, personally selling andsupporting delivery (mainly through delegation) of work across a broad numberof offerings. Driving both organic and new business development, they areresponsible for actively generating business that can be delivered by theirteam, being central to identifying new business opportunities and drivingscientific strategy for proposals and pitches.

Scientific Directors are responsible for reviewing the workof others, whether in a coaching capacity or through formal line managementwhist maintaining an established balance between business development, deliveryof billed work and team management and support. Playing a key role in givingthe teams an identity and supporting them to live Cello Health Communicationsvalues and culture, they encourage collaboration across Cello Health, whilstdriving the delivery to strategic goals with a specific focus on their ownpersonal and their team’s development plans to achieve individual, team andoverall business objectives.

The role requires a balanced ability to

·       Provide strategic‐level input and expertise onclient accounts to drive growth in existing accounts and for new business

·       Partake in the generation of new and innovativeideas based on scientific content and delivery, to broaden the offerings ofCello Health and ensure we keep pace with the changing environment

·       Build team culture and capability throughrole‐model leadership, delegation and solid guidance on project delivery, usingscientific leadership to drive exceptional standards and team excellence

·       Manage scientific teams and delivers toinnovative programmes with integrity, and lead scientific excellence andquality, through direction, guidance and training


·       Life science degree or higher, PhD in a relevantsubject preferred

·       A willingness to uphold the company values andto lead the teams by example

·       Extensive healthcare agency experience in ascientific and strategic capacity, preferably at Scientific Director level

·       Experience of developing medical strategy in abusiness development capacity

·       Previous experience as a medical writer in anagency or pharmaceutical environment

·       Strong analytical skills, a problem-solvingmind-set and the ability to think critically and creatively

·       Excellent communication skills (verbal andwritten), with a high aptitude for scientific story telling

·       Excellent organisational skills and an abilityto juggle several responsibilities, accounts and projects, manage incomingworkload effectively and maintain standards of excellence
