Our client is an independent medical communications agency based in Buckinghamshire. They are seeking a Programme Director to lead one of their teams in the delivery of client programmes. Our client specialises in the delivery of medical education programmes, both traditional and digital, with continued growth driving recruitment.

The role will involve leading and managing all aspects involved in the delivery of client programmes ensuring that client requirements and goals are met. You will also oversee the account financials, managing the revenue and profit from ongoing programmes. Lastly you will assist in identifying new business opportunities from new and existing clients.

Project Management:

  • Help lead the programme development/proposal process, ensuring that these robustly reflect the agreed brand and medical education objectives, and where possible provide an integrated programme that also provide synergies with other client communication programmes
  • Attend tactical planning / brand strategy meetings
  • Effectively lead client programmes
  • Ensure an agreed project specification including outcomes, measures of success, project plans/timelines and budget are in place for each programme activity
  • Ensure all key client review/approval requirements and processes are well understood by members of the programme team to ensure timely and effective client approval
  • Regularly review project progress with team, identifying key pressure points and agree contingencies to effectively manage these

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and support all team members to ensure agreed responsibilities are delivered to agreed timelines
  • Plan/lead regular team planning meetings in relation to programmes
  • Ensure the team is aware of and delivers their responsibilities consistent with agreed processes and standards of quality
  • Contribute to appraisals

Client Management:

  • Be the key agency contact for Client brand team for specific projects, or if appropriate, across the brand programme
  • Aim to establish role as an integral and valued member of the brand team
  • Identify opportunities to add value in terms of brand insights, market and KOL intelligence

Key Opinion Leader Management:

  • Project briefing/liaison with the brand’s priority KOLs
  • Project briefing/liaison with professional facilitators i.e. journalist chairs
  • Ensure detailed planning is completed for any KOL briefing to help ensure meeting objectives are met
  • Develop KOL relationships that are beneficial to both the Client and Agency
  • Appropriately report any KOL discussions to the client that may impact upon the Client and/or brand

Financial Management:

  • Ensure the timely submission of accurate project estimates and invoices
  • Review with team any areas of project over-spend or under-spend manage with client

New Business:

  • Subsequent to agreed medical education plan, on an ongoing basis help identify any additional projects/activities with brand team, whether these be supplementary to existing activities or new projects in their own right
  • Identify opportunities to ‘showcase’ the Agency with other brand teams at existing clients

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Life science degree
  • Significant experience of delivering medical educational programmes
  • Previous experience in international pharmaceutical company/medical education agency or equivalent knowledge.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and understanding and some experience of financial management
  • Previous experience of managing a team
  • Excellent organisational and written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of all aspects of pharmaceutical marketing
  • Good logistic and project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
