An exciting opportunity for a committed and driven Principal Medical Writer/Scientific Director has arisen in a stand-out global medical communications company specialised in medical education and training content development and delivery. The successful candidate will join a talented and dynamic team in their Cheshire hub and will support them in developing core medical education content for global pharmaceutical clients.

Reporting into the company leadership team, this role has the responsibility to:
  • Oversee the delivery of a wide range of medical communications scientific content
  • Manage and lead the editorial team to prepare scientific content
  • Take editorial lead across a wide range of accounts
  • Provide strategic oversight of key accounts
  • Attend international programmes and lead from an editorial perspective
  • Travel internationally as required (e.g. to client meetings and to deliver scientific programmes)
This role requires expertise in a breadth of medical education meetings and materials, and in general there will be little involvement in publication planning or manuscript/abstract writing, though knowledge of this is required.
 
Accountabilities
  • Oversee editorial output over a variety of projects and provide appropriate feedback ensuring scientific content is delivered to meet client needs and requirements, within budget and agreed timelines and to a high standard
  • Take editorial lead on one or more accounts, preparing and reviewing medical content
  • Work with the commercial team to create strategic project plans(communication plans, programme agendas, etc)
  • Provide input and content for both project related and internal digital outputs (newsletters, websites, etc)
  • Liaise directly with international clients, partners, Key Opinion leaders and faculty and other healthcare professionals
  • Provide strategic oversight and contribute to business development activities for existing and new clients
  • Prepare for and attend new business pitches
  • Attend scientific programmes and congresses when necessary
  • Facilitate workshops and client meetings as required
  • Provide financial estimates of resource requirements
  • Support other members of the wider team as required
  • Contribute to weekly planning and status meetings with the wider project teams
  • Lead and develop the editorial team, including setting objectives and conducting performance reviews
  • Oversee recruitment and selection of in-house writers and management of freelancers

Essential Experience
  • Previous solid experience in a medical communications agency as a Principal Medical Writer or Editorial Team Leader looking to move to the next level, or a Scientific Director [or equivalent]seeking the next challenge
  • Experience across a number of therapeutic areas and broad range of editorial outputs
  • Experience facilitating meetings and workshops
  • ยท Managerial experience
  • Experience of strategic medical education and communications planning
  • Commercial awareness
  • Full understanding of the drug development process and regulatory guidelines
  • Extensive experience in client management and internal team work
