Job Title:  Principal Medical Education Writer

Reports to:  Director: Scientific Strategy

Department/Division:  Springer Healthcare Education

Position Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Identifying and verifying unmet professional practice gaps and learning objectives within the clinical landscape when responding to RFPs, for educational grant applications, and for Springer Healthcare (SH) initiatives
  • Developing and reviewing scientific and clinical IME programmes based on needs assessments that are compliant with good CME practice guidelines where appropriate
  • Developing and implementing criteria for the identification and recruitment of Expert Programme Directors, Faculty members, Speakers and to lead and contribute to IME programmes
  • Providing on-site scientific support for educational events, and being a representative for SH at client meetings
  • Contributing to the strategy, development and content creation for an IME website

Key responsibilities

  • Educational strategy and programme development
  1. Develop IME programmes to address educational and practice gaps of healthcare professionals identified through rigorous needs assessments and development of robust learning objectives
  2. Identify Experts within therapy areas to advise on programme design, content development and to participate in the programme
  3. Be able to gain a working knowledge of a novel therapy area quickly to enable constructive discussions with Experts, Faculty and healthcare professionals
  4. Contribute to the strategy and creation of content for an IME website
  5. Contribute to the development of robust processes and SOPs to ensure that the IME team produces high-quality programmes and content to the agreed specifications and deadlines
  • Editorial work
  1. Provide full briefs for editorial work to medical writers or freelancers, including scope, content, time to spend on project and deadlines
  2. Provide timely, consistent and constructive feedback when reviewing other writers’ work
  3. Write, edit, review and proofread all content for projects to a high level of scientific and clinical accuracy, flow and consistency to ensure that high-quality products are delivered on time
  4. Attend live events as the SH scientific representative
  5. Maintain a good working knowledge of therapy areas of interest
  6. Be point of contact for scientific enquiries
  7. Ensure own, writers’ and freelancers’ adherence to budgets and deadlines
  • Business Development
    1. Provide valued scientific and clinical input into business proposals and new business initiatives
    2. When requested provide quotes for editorial hours for specific projects
    3. Attend SH client and Expert meetings as the SH scientific representative
  • Other general duties
  1. International travel, as required
  2. Possibility of line management (business-dependent)
  3. Any other duties as requested by the Director: Scientific Strategy

Skills/Experience

Essential

  • Medical/scientific degree
  • Previous experience in a senior/management position within an IME provider
  • Proven experience of leading IME programme development and obtaining CME accreditation
  • Good understanding of educational and technical design of live, online, and blended programmes to deliver outcomes measurable at Moore’s Level 5+
  • Reviewing experience within a Medical Education/Medical Communication setting
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills
  • Good understanding of the latest trends and opportunities in the IME sector
  • Pro-active, resourceful and a good team-player
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken

Desired

  • Higher degree
  • Management or supervisory experience
  • Good scientific knowledge across multiple therapy areas, particularly oncology, rheumatology and diabetes
