Job Details:
Medical Writing, Editing, and Design Services (MEDS) is seeking a Medical Editor to join our UK-based group of editors and graphic designers.  
The MEDS group prioritises quality and efficiency through training and team member support. Our medical editors work with assigned research groups and will engage with researchers across the organisation through workload sharing.

This position will be located in the RTI-HS Manchester, UK, office.

  • Edits RTI-HS deliverables (e.g., protocols, economic modelling reports, literature review reports, dossiers) for grammar, spelling, style, and consistency, according to the appropriate style guide and company standards
  • Formats complex documents according to RTI-HS or client-provided Word templates
  • Reviews large-scale organisation of documents and their overall flow
  • Establishes and manages complex schedules or closely follows and engages with existing production schedules
  • Coordinates with and assists others when needed
  • Creates and combines Adobe PDF files
  • University degree in Liberal Arts, English, Communications, or Journalism
  • 5 years of editing experience (medical and scientific editing experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of general grammar and punctuation rules
  • Knowledge of style guides, particularly the AMA Manual of Style
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Experience editing large documents in Word (i.e., ≥ 150 pages) preferred
  • Experience with EndNote reference management software preferred
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor and members of the Medical Writing, Editing, and Design Services team
  • Ability to support a diverse group of internal customers and adapt working style to accommodate a variety of personalities and needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide diplomatic and constructive comments to writers
  • Ability to prioritize workload and to make strategic decisions about what to accomplish when faced with competing needs, including asking for help from team
Physical and mental demands of this role include those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, as outlined above.  Examples include:  remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time; operating a computer and other office machinery; thinking, learning, and concentrating effectively and frequently communicating with other people, both within RTI and outside of RTI; frequently moving about inside and travel between offices and laboratories; frequently conducting laboratory site inspections (if applicable), ability to handle the stress associated in meeting frequent, multiple and tight deadlines, ability to work in excess of 40 hours per week as workload and deadlines may require, consistent demonstration of mental stability and ability to have regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
