As a
Medical Editor you will undertake a variety of quality control and editing tasks to ensure that the materials produced by the publications and medical education teams and always clear, accurate and consistent. The
Medical Editor will also be involved in the development and implementation of SOPs for the editorial team, as well as supporting the content approval process by using Datavision, Zinc and Veeva.
Medical Editors take on the responsibility for coaching and mentoring junior editorial team members, by clearly sharing their knowledge and experience as well as providing clear and helpful feedback to help the team grow.
Key Responsibilities:
Communication
- Liaise with senior editors and client service teams with regard to account forecasting and timelines, to ensure appropriate editorial resource is in place across accounts, especially during times of high workload
- Support with work planning, resourcing and prioritisation across the editorial team alongside the senior editorial and scientific services team, ensuring adherence to SOPs and timelines
Project Delivery
- Edit and proofread content of medical education and publication materials, including but not limited to publications (manuscripts and other materials including congress abstracts, posters and oral presentations) and scientific communication materials, including a wide range of materials for different stakeholder types such as slide decks, congress materials and meeting reports
- Reference check a variety of medical education and publication materials against original sources and support in the collation of reference packs in line with client SOPs
- Assist in the preparation of materials and support the client approval process by uploading materials with supporting references to Veeva and Zinc, managing/coordinating the approval flow
- Upload content to Datavision, and manage communication and comments within the Datavision process as well as ensuring project workflows are always up to date for compliance/reporting purposes
- Own responsibility for the submission of congress abstracts and publications, including:
- Gathering required author information such as approval, disclosure forms, address, educations level, CVs etc.
- Completing relevant paperwork and ensuring the format/style meets journal/congress specifications
- Coordinate response to reviewers’ comments and resubmission process in a standard format
- Support with the development and implementation of SOPs across the editorial team
Attention to Detail
- Develop high-quality medical education resources in a variety of formats
- Support the team by adhering to the internal review and quality control processes
- Maintain a high level of proficiency in the routine and advanced features of commonly used program
- Own responsibility for accurate and timely delivery of materials in accordance with agency, client and industry standards
Build Collaborative Relationships
- Take on a coaching role for Associate Medical Editors, delegating effectively, providing clear direction and support whilst helping them develop by sharing your knowledge and learnings
- Work closely with senior teams to provide constructive feedback on the quality of work briefed by editorial
- Keep editorial and other project team members appraised about the status of projects, identify and communicate potential risks and formulate solutions
- Maintain full understanding of internal processes, and roles and responsibilities of members of all departments
Taking the Initiative
- Able to effectively organise your own workload, and identify when different tasks and responsibilities need to take priority
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of pharmaceutical industry standards and compliance
- Own responsibility for your personal development, regularly looking for other ways to learn and grow professionally by maximising exposure to new opportunities, making the most of training and requesting training as required.
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- Educated to degree level in a relevant science subject
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a relevant role/industry
- Advanced knowledge of referencing, ideally gained through experience working with medical education materials
- Advanced knowledge of submission process to both journals and congresses
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience editing and proofing documents, with emphasis on with PowerPoint and Word
Desirable:
- Previous editorial experience gained in a medical communications agency would be highly advantageous
- Good working knowledge of client approval processes including Datavision, Zinc and Veeva
- Experience of working with templates and figure redrawing is beneficial
